Miss Canada, Cathy Diggles, stops to give her autograph to a member of the U.S. Navy Color Guard as she entered Long Beach, California, Municipal Auditorium. She is wearing a costume inspired by the dress of her country’s mounted police. All contestants paraded last night in native costumes, but judging was confined to preliminary selection of a Miss U.S.A., who will then compete against the foreign entrants.
