Miss Brazil Univ - the best & the worst in all times
The Miss Brazil is on of the most traditional pageants of the world, since 1954. In 1952 and 1953, the country did not have candidates. This also ocurred in 1990.
The 50 and 60s
These were, how the brazilian experts, the best decades of brazilian pageantry. The contest was the 2nd most popular show in Brazil, able to fill arenas of sports. The "Maracanãzinho" received, in the 50 and 60's, more of 30 thousand people for the final night of the event (pics).
The 70s
In these years, began the decadence. The public fell and fell and in 1980 the franchise was sell for a new TV, SBT.
The 80 and 90s
The new TV transformed the Miss Brazil in a stage show. In the new format, the miss waited his votes on the stage in front of the judges, public and presenter (Sílvio Santos, a very carismatic presenter in Brazil). The audiences, however, continued falling.
In the 90’s, de TV SBT sold the franchise to Marlene Brito. In these years, Brazil did not broadcast the pageant and the greatest sponsors withdrew.
The 80’ and 90’s are considered the worst years of Miss Brasil by brazilian experts.
The 2000s
In 1999 a new Organization bought the franchise: Gaeta Promoções e Eventos, and the pageant go back to the TV broadcast. However, the results on MU were not the best: only a top here or there. A little revitalization began in 2007, when Natália Guimarães placed as 1st runner-up. This captured, again, the attention of the public.
In final of 2010, the Band TV – who was the broadcast canal – purchased the franchise, and after make the Brazil a host-country (in 2011 and probably in 2014), the country was back to the top 5 (2011, 12 and 13).

PS: in 2006, MBUniv and MBWorld were separate. A new Org purchased the MW franchise.

60 - Nayla Micherif (the worst)
60th - Nayla Micherif - Miss Brazil Univ 1997
Nayla is, generally, considered one of the worst MBUs of all times. She takes one of the worst Brazilian places in MU, placed in 56th of 74 contestants. In the 2000s, she made part of the Gaeta and was a presenter of Miss Brazil on Band TV. However, she was not a expert in presentation, so during the broadcasts, her comments very muddled were transformed in jokes by the fans.
She is famous for criticizing Débora Lyra (MBU 2010) on the final night of Miss Brazil 2011, when she told, in live on TV, Débora had gained weight. Nayla is also famous for talking "parade bikini" and no "bikini parade" (she was ever very nervous like a presenter and did not control her words and thoughts).

59 - Juliana Borges
59th - Juliana Borges - Miss Brazil Univ 2001
Juliana Borges (from Rio Grande do Sul, the state who is the greatest winner in Brazilian pageantry) became famous by her surgeries: 19 (these were not 19, at the end, because, for ex, the breast surgery is 1 and they said 2, by the 2 sides. Read: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
The controversies "what is healthy or not" rocked the Brazil and the MU. When Juliana arrived in PR in 2001, she was one of the main issues. Was not necessary: she did not place in the top.

58 - Larissa Costa
58th - Larissa Costa - Miss Brazil Univ 2009
Practically nobody might think that Larissa Costa would win the MBU 2009. She was not a fave and her state is not traditional in Brazilian pageantry. The greatest faves were Rayana Breda, from Pará, and Rayane Morais, from Minas Gerais - this last of José Alonso's prestigious school, who prepared her during 2 years - but on the final night the 2 Rays fell: Breda, too nervous, give a very confused answer, and Morais, a answer who was weak after her big preparation. So, the unexpected happened and Larissa captured the crown.
During the MW 2009, Larissa was some times listed how a fave probably because Brazilian fans dueled with Phils in the popular votes on the MU website. However, she did not make the Top 15 and after going back to Brazil, she said: "I realy waited stay in the list of the 15 semifinalists. The other misses said to me: Yes, you will be in the top, because you are a favorite in the votations".

57 - Natália Anderle
57th - Natália Anderle - Miss Brazil Univ 2008
Natália is ever a "half term": many like and many others, no. When she arrived for participate on Miss Brazil, she was on of the faves - but the pageant in 2008 was not one of the best.
A big hope rested of her: make a good presence on MU 2008 and maybe bring the crown, because her antecessor placed as 1st runner-up. At the end, she did not place on the top of the MU.

56 - Valéria Péris
56th - Valéria Péris - Miss Brazil Univ 1994
Valéria Peris is, generally, considered one of the worst MBUs by Brazilian experts, but on MU, she did not make a bad presence: placed as 19th of 70 contestants.

2002 is a case for forget: Brazil had a married miss - and the worst is that, probably, all of the Org knew this. She, including, participated on MU and was dethroned only after her participation on BBB, when she revealed the true. Shameful.

Analysis - the best years
Look the 1st 20 years of Brazil on MU: only 3 unplaced. In the 60s, Brazil was considering the best national pageant in organization (out USA). In these years was common the MU and other misses come to Brazil, for a media tour, before the begining of the MU.

The fall
Now look the 20 next: in 76, 77 and 78 Brazil unplaced 3 times in a row. What happened? Were the "new misses" ugly or not prepared? This happened why the Brazilian Org was failed and did not have money for bring the MU to Brazil?
Personaly I have the idea that when Brazilian money (for the MU's media tour and other events) ended, ended the tops too.

Coments: Shocked me that Priscila was so far in this list. She was on of worst MBUs in all times: made comments on the networks about other misses and people who not loved her, had a lot of naked photos, about of them she and the Org lied. This was absolutely against the rules.
Vera Fischer, MBU 1969, was on of the greatest actresses in Brazil in the 70, 80 and 90s. She is the most succesfully miss in the TV scene in Brazil in all times.
